A few days after a student at Ohio’s Chardon High School shot and killed three classmates in 2012, then-principal Andy Fetchik got an unexpected phone call. It wasn’t an angry or bereaved parent; it was Frank DeAngelis – a man who knows something about being the principal at a high school that suffers a mass shooting.

DeAngelis, who was principal at the time of the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, had a simple message for Fetchik: “You’re going to be okay. You will get through this, and if you need to talk, call me.”

Fetchik did call, and DeAngelis proved to be an invaluable source of comfort.

Now both men are part of a new support network made up of current and former principals who have experienced the trauma of a school shooting.

On this episode of The Prevention Podcast, we explore the mission of the Principals Recovery Network with special guest Frank DeAngelis.
